The Zurro

Description

The Zurro is a pet name I have for this family of burros. Most of the Jerusalem burros are born with stripes on their legs resembling zebra stripes, hence Zebra-Burro, Zurro.  These stripes usually fade after about a year. This family of burros has the striping more dominant so they remain even on the older burros. Oatman is known for it’s burro population and you can interact with them in town. They are full of character and fun to see them strolling through town. Although they look lethargic, remember that they are the top of the pack in the desert and fear nothing. Their only real enemy is humans and cars. No carrots can be fed to the burros in town and should be discouraged elsewhere as well. They are high in sugar content and the burros can’t assimilate that so the older burros that were fed lots of carrots have a big fat roll on their necks which is bad for their health.
