Wood Portal

Description

Wood Portal is one of my longest works. I had originally found this 6-foot-tall root ball at 8300 feet near Cascade Idaho. Once I saw it, I knew that I had to have this shot in my portfolio. As often is the case I find a composition and then study it to imagine what the best lighting, time of day and framing was for that shot. It took many trips up to 8300 feet in order to catch this scene as I saw it. The sky was the biggest part of the problem as it was usually a blue sky, grey sky or a white sky, none of which would put this photo in it’s best light. Finally after 1 year and 1 month did it finally give me this shot. There is another photo in the gallery that was taken 2 years later and from a little further back so that you can see the whole root ball I was working with.
